Information We Collect

We collect only what's needed to make HOMIES work for you and your household:

• Name — to identify you within your household group
• Email address — to create and manage your account
• Phone number — for account verification
• Physical address — to set up your household location
• Precise and coarse location — to show your location to roommates on the map, only when you enable sharing
• Photos and videos — for your profile picture
• Messages and chat content — for the house chat and Mom AI features
• User ID — to manage your account and household membership

How We Use Your Information

Your data is used solely to provide app functionality — never for advertising:

• To create and manage your HOMIES account
• To connect you with your household members
• To enable shared task management, expenses, and grocery lists
• To show your location to roommates when you choose to share it
• To send household notifications and updates
• To power Mom AI with household context

Sharing Your Information

Your data is shared only in these limited cases:

• With your household members, as required by the app's features
• With service providers who help us operate the app (such as Supabase for cloud hosting)
• When required by applicable law

AI Features and Third-Party Data Sharing

Mom AI, our household AI assistant, is powered by OpenAI (model: gpt-4o-mini). When you interact with Mom AI, the following household data is sent to OpenAI to generate responses:

• Your display name and personality tags
• All roommate display names and point totals
• Household health score
• Up to 30 pending tasks (title, room, points, due date, assignee)
• Last 20 household expenses (amounts, category, who paid, per-roommate splits)
• Your chat messages with Mom AI

No email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, or device identifiers are sent to OpenAI. OpenAI processes this data solely to generate responses and provides the same level of data protection as described in this policy. You can review OpenAI's privacy policy at https://openai.com/privacy.

You can withdraw consent for Mom AI at any time by contacting us at talal@homiesapp.co. If you withdraw consent, Mom AI will be disabled for your account and no further data will be sent to OpenAI.

Location Data

Location sharing is entirely optional and user-controlled. You can turn it on or off at any time from the Location tab. When sharing is off, your location is not visible to anyone. We do not use location data for advertising or tracking.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can request account deletion at any time by contacting us at talal@homiesapp.co. We will delete your data within 30 days of your request.

Children's Privacy

HOMIES is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Security

We use industry-standard encryption and security practices to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Your data is stored securely using Supabase infrastructure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of HOMIES after changes means you accept the updated policy.
